How do I try the app without my own videos?

On the empty start screen tap Try a sample project. It creates a project made of generated clips, text and sound that you can edit.

Where are my projects and videos stored?

On your device only, inside the app. Nothing is uploaded. Finished videos are saved to your photo library when you export. Deleting the app deletes its projects, so export or back up what you want to keep.

Why does the app ask for access to photos, the microphone and speech recognition?

Photos: to pick the videos and photos you want to edit and to save finished videos. Microphone: only when you record a voiceover. Speech recognition: only when you add automatic captions; the recognition itself is done by Apple. You can change each permission in Settings.

Body effects do not appear on my clip.

Body effects need a person in the shot and use the on-device person detection of iOS and iPadOS. Make sure the person is clearly visible and large enough in the frame.

Editing a large video is slow.

Open Proxy in the editor toolbar and turn on proxy files, so editing and preview use a lighter copy; the export still uses the original quality.
